The Wickiup Story

ESTABLISHED IN 1936

Tucked along Spearfish Creek, Wickiup Cabins has welcomed travelers for generations. Built by hand in 1936 by Sam Price using logs from the surrounding hillsides, the cabins were shaped by both determination and the surprises of canyon life. One well known photo shows Sam standing shirtless in deep snow in June, as if summer had simply taken the day off. Even so, he believed the cool air, clear creek, and peaceful setting were worth it. That same spirit of simplicity, adventure, and connection continues at Wickiup today.

Set in the canyon beside the creek, Wickiup has always been shaped by the land around it.

The original log cabins were built by hand, giving Wickiup the historic character guests still feel today.

Generations later, Wickiup remains a quiet canyon getaway where families, friends, and travelers come together.
